Are the Maple Leafs called the "Leafs"?

because some ignorant idiot back in the old days was too stupid and illiterate to know the plural form of "leaf"? If there was a big Delete on for this miserable excuse for a team, would you hit the on and delete the leafs? Do you hate them as much as I do? I hate them so much.
