Can Insomnia cause death?

I know insomnia occurs by many things. But mine is just lack of energy I believe. I was just wondering if death can be a issue when dealing with it, I have been dealing with this for just about a month now. I have been stressed out a lot in the last few months. I know insomnia can be brought upon by stress. But I have no idea if it can lead to other things, I hate this damn thing and I want some tips on how to get rid of it. Doctors just say rest and I think that is a crock. So if anyone with past experience or an answer to my current question please help. Please no snotty answers or exaggerations.
