Could someone explain this quote to me?

I'm three years older now than you were when you fought the bad guy. In other words, I'm currently 16, and you fought the bad guy when you were 13, so I'm pretty sure I can handle it and feel obligated to do so. (Those ages aren't correct, but just to give an example).
