For anyone with kids. What would be your reaction to the following?

My (now ex-) boyfriend and i recently had a hugh following out. He lost complete control of his temper. Ten to 15 minutes into the fight I left and went and got a friend to come sit while he packed. I held on to the cell phone in case he got worse in front of both me and my friend. His temper kept getting worse and I stayed calm and silent...letting him blow up. He said and did something very inproperate and I threw the cell down the hall. He grabbed my 9 year old daughter's baby album (who I have NOT seen in almost 2 years since I lost her in a very bad custody battle) and threw it in the toilet!!!! Luckly I got it out before any thing was completely destored. To me that meant his cell phone (which his cousin gave him and costed $30.oo at wal-mart) as much as those 7 years of my life with her. He says he is sorry but I cant just accept Im sorry for something like that. He tried to take something from me I can never get back...my daughter's first 7 years of her life!! Is my reaction out of line? Is it possible to forgive someone for something like that?? Im being told I am over reacting and just crazy by his family and friends. Am I?? I know none of you know me but I know a lot of you are parents. I need other parents advice.
